Adam Malcom and Scott Kasen, doctoral students from U.Va.'s School of Engineering and Applied Science, on Friday were awarded the first U.Va. Entrepreneurship Cup -- and a $20,000 first-prize check -- for their plans to bring to market an award-winning design for a belt-based life preserver -- more comfortable and unobtrusive than typical personal flotation devices.
